Celebrating 1 year with Derrick & Kameron!

Derrick and Kameron were married on May 16, 2016. I had the pleasure of capturing their big day, filled with nervous butterflies, love, excitement and gorgeous TN rolling hills. I caught up with Kameron to give you her reflection on her wedding day and first year of marriage. Enjoy!

How did you meet?

Derrick and I met on a mission trip to Grand Isle, Louisiana. This was the end of our freshman year of college (December 2013).  It sounds crazy, but before the trip, I had read a book about not chasing after guys and surrendering to the Lord and His plans.  And long story short, on the way to Grand Isle, (the only way I can describe it is), I basically had a thought that wasn’t mine, almost like God saying, “there is he is,” as I looked up at Derrick, sitting two rows in front of me.  It wasn’t an immediate thing between us.  It was a long process, actually.  We grew close on the trip, only because Derrick had been robbed in the middle of New Orleans by a shoe shiner, and I found it to be the funniest thing ever-I still do.  That is where it all started and our relationship grew from there…well, long friendship at first.

What is your fondest wedding memory?

My fondest memory from our wedding day would be, after the ceremony, because it was done then. All the stress was over and I really got to enjoy that moment as we exited our ceremony location. There was a very brief moment, where it was just Derrick and I afterwards, and that was a special moment.

Did your wedding go as planned?

(Laughing) Ummm sort of.  I am a bit of a perfectionist, and wanted all of my pinterest ideas to work out, but most of them didn’t.  I’ll admit, I was a bit of bridezilla that weekend leading up to the wedding, because it seemed like nothing was going as planned.  But that’s okay. Our wedding day was the best day ever and now I just look back and laugh.  I got to marry my best friend that day, so looking back, everything else didn’t really matter.

What was your experience with Tara D Photos like?

I was extremely pleased with our pictures from Tara D Photos.  Tara is an amazing woman to work with and she helped make the day go smooth, and took some stress away from me.  I didn’t have to think about what was next and keep checking the clock to make sure we stayed on schedule, she took care of all of that.  She was very organized and I just loved her style of work.  She offers, crisp, clean, and bright images, and that was exactly what I was looking for in a photographer! I was honestly so worried about our pre-wedding pictures, not because of Tara, but because during that time, I just felt like it was all over my face how stressed out I was and I was afraid that that would show in our images.  However, when we received our pictures back and I looked at those images of us getting ready, I was overjoyed.  She did so amazing capturing those pictures and I would’ve never believed that I was even stressed out then.  It was nothing but joy and excitement.  I couldn’t believe it!

Tell me about your first year of marriage.

Our first year of marriage has been the best year yet!  There is just something about doing life with your best friend and husband, that is so special. I’ll admit that it is challenging at times, but every second is so worth it, because I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.  We have had to face a lot this year, but I think it has only grown us closer to each other and closer to God.  Our fights have mainly consisted of house hold chores, which is something so small, and we end up just forgetting why we are even fighting! Our first fight as a married couple, was because I wanted to tuck our sheets in and he wanted to have them untucked- he just could not stand having them tucked in.  But if that is our biggest arguments, then I say we are going to be just fine! But seriously, it has been amazing.  He has made so many of my dreams come true and I thank God every day for bringing him into my life and giving me someone who is so selfless, hardworking, and caring.  I look forward to more years to come!
